Voice, Piano, Guitar
Ashlee Fields, “the little girl with a big voice”, has been on her musical journey since the age of six in 2001. Ashlee was born in Gaithersburg, MD and raised in the DC Metropolitan area. During her early years, she began singing in the church choir as an alto, and that is where her nickname ‘the little girl with a big voice’ began. In addition to singing in church settings, Ashlee has also explored playing instrumental music as well. From 2006 to 2012, Ashlee had the privilege of learning and performing the alto saxophone. Her performances included playing with small jazz ensembles at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2006, as well as being in the Watkins Mill High School Marching Band in 2012.
Ashlee earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Education and a Minor in Piano from the University of the District of Columbia in May 2022. As aforementioned, she is a multi-instrumentalist playing the following instruments: piano, guitar, vocals, and alto saxophone. During her tenure at UDC, she was afforded multiple opportunities to sing both in new choirs, and solo performances. In Nov. 2015, Ashlee Fields participated in the “Community -Wide Spirituals Sing”, which was curated by Nolan Williams Jr. This event was sponsored by the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and the Washington National Opera (WNO). While an undergraduate, she was afforded the opportunity to participate in Shiloh Baptist Church’s rendition of Handel’s Messiah during the Christmas holiday in 2017. In addition, she was known as a leader by the Music Department at UDC as a music theory tutor to her fellow colleagues, ranging from freshmen to senior grade levels. Ashlee enjoys singing and playing different genres of music, ranging from Gospel, R&B, Classical, Pop, Jazz etc. As of 2023, she has had multiple collaboration opportunities as a pianist and guitarist in the DC Gogo Music Culture scene. In addition to her instrumental endeavors, her musical interests include songwriting and music production.
One of Ashlee’s goals with her music is to inspire and to motivate young people to be comfortable with who they are and to provide an outlet of peace through creative expression. Lastly, Ashlee’s involvement in music has helped her to express herself in ways that words could never suffice, and she hopes that the artistry that comes from the universal power of music will help those around her to do the same.
