John Linn is an award-winning songwriter and performer living in Washington, DC, where he teaches and also fronts the popular Americana quintet, After the Flood. Having grown up singing harmony and listening to folk music in the style of Pete Seeger, Lee Hayes and Woody Guthrie, John specializes in teaching traditional styles of American music, such as folk, blues, rock and old time. He has performed across the United States and internationally. Two recordings, Illinois 14 (2017) and After the Flood (2016) have received national folk radio airplay and critical acclaim.
John earned his guitar certificate from the Berklee School of Music in 2012, and is also on the music theory faculty at the Rocky Mountain Song School, where he has studied songwriting with Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, Peter Yarrow, Daryl Scott and Josh Ritter. John grounds his students in thefundamentals of guitar, with additional interests in creativity coaching, improvisation, harmony singing and performance development.
