Voice and Beginner Piano

Ruth Chen began her music education studying classical piano and found her passion for singing nine years later. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in classical voice from Towson University. At Towson University, Ruth studied classical voice with Jason Widney and jazz voice with Sara Jones. Her recent operatic performances include Cobweb in Michael Ching’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the ensemble of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.

As a performer and teacher, Ruth believes in working with the entire body when learning to sing. She has studied ballet, jazz, and modern dance with professors at Towson University and uses her knowledge of the body to help students warm up effectively and sing properly. Connecting the body to the voice is essential to releasing tension, maintaining good posture, breath control, movement, and mental awareness.
